To meet community needs, all sports and cultural facilities in the region are being gradually modernized and expanded. Good opportunities and conditions to play sport and rest actively stimulate the whole commune and, therefore, are one of the priorities of the local authorities.
There are many institutions which organize sports and cultural events in the commune: the Centre of Sport, Culture and Recreation (OKSiR), Public Library, Junior High School and village clubs, supported by many non-governmental organizations. Effective cooperation results in a well developed sport infrastructure and a wide offer of cultural events.
The most popular sports facilities are: Witkowo sports hall with a gym, fitness and rehabilitation rooms, the sports hall in Mielżyn, Witkowo Public Library, village clubs, the Volunteer Fire Department in Witkowo, the Hall of History in Witkowo, multifunctional sports pitch at Czerniejewska street, “Orlik” sports pitches at Wrzesińska street, Witkowo Municipal Stadium and sport pitches in Skorzęcin resort.
Cultural events and festivals organized in the commune are well visited by the locals and residents of neighbouring towns and villages. The most popular are: Witkowo Days, workshops for young folk dancing groups, festival of songs about health and ecology, the Art Festival for children and teenagers, Children’s Day, Harvest Festival and Polish National Holidays celebrations.
The local authorities organize many sports events like the National Night Chess Championships, Indoor Football Championships, tennis tournaments, School Street Run, Commune Football Championships, Indoor table tennis and volleyball tournament, Kindergarten tournament at St. Nicholas’ Day, Easter tournament for the first forms of primary schools and festivals organized every summer in Skorzęcin: the National F-10 F-15 Model Boat Sailing Championships, beach ball, beach football and basketball tournaments and Long-distance Swimming Championships.
